THE BEGINNING of HORRY LODGE NO. 381 A.F.M.
In the spring of 1951, A.L. 5951, several of the active members of Conway Lodge No. 65, AFM being desirous of spreading more Masonic light, and after due consideration, came to the conclusion that it would be for the best interest of Masonry in Conway if another Lodge should be constituted. And after further deliberation it was suggested that Brother Charles Homer Burroughs apply to the Grand Secretary for petition blank on which to apply for Dispensation to constitute a new lodge. The following members of Conway Lodge No. 65, AFM signed a petition for Dispensation: Charles Homer Burroughs, Ezel Solomon, Samuel Kirby Caines PM, William Cater Floyd PM, Grover M, Moore PM, John Holt PM, John Osby Cartrette PM, John Putman Cartrette PM, Milton Huger Marlowe, James Gaston Lewis, William Lee Robinson, Samuel W. Washington, Daniel Marion Pridgen, John Wiley Dennis, John Samuel Gore, LeRoy Gaston Ryan PM and Thomas Julian Perritt PM.
A prayer of these petitioners was granted, and on April 10th 1951, Most Worshipful Homer M. Pace, Grand Master of The Grand Lodge of Ancient Free Masons of South Carolina, granted a dispensation to open a new lodge. A special communication was held on June 6th for the purpose of receiving the Grand Master and other Grand Lodge Officers to Consecrate, Dedicate, and Constitute, our Lodge according to the ancient usages and customs of the Order.
